I found this flyer in the music building last night. I think it has some interesting ideas and I think the fact that the designer lined all the text up to a central axis (well, it's really more like two parallel vertical axes that are really close to each other because of where the type overlaps in the center) is fairly effective. I also like the hand-done scribble texture in the background against the digital font faces.
For me, the problem is the blaring hot pink, orange and red that are used. I get the analagous colors, but those three in particular seem to be vibrating with saturation and intensity so that my eyes are sore! I think the poster could have been simplified and made more effective if they lost the magenta all together and just kept a three/four color scheme: orange, (red), white, teal. Also, I think the bright white of the body text almost attracts my eye more than the composer names that are in the big display font in the middle because the colors, although they are really "hot colors," they seem to be sort of middle tones that begin to meld with the background and crazy scribble marks a little too much, whereas the white immediately jumps out (this is more apparent in person than on screen).
